The Seattle City Council approved a land use action and special exception to allow the installation of 32 netting poles at Jefferson Park Golf Course. These poles, ranging in height from 20 to 160 feet, are intended to prevent golf balls from leaving the course property and landing in surrounding residential areas. The project includes footings and netting for the new poles. The approval modifies development standards, specifically exceeding the height limits for the Neighborhood Residential 3 (NR3) zone and the Airport Height Overlay District by up to 130 feet. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a Determination of No Hazard to Air Navigation, contingent on the structures being marked and lighted in accordance with FAA Advisory Circular 70/7460-1 M. The netting fabric is transparent to minimize visual impact, and new trees will be replanted for any removed during construction.
