The ordinance amends the Administrative Code to revise food purchasing goals and reporting requirements for the Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Sheriff's Department for City hospitals and jails. Initially, these provisions were set to sunset in September 2025. The new ordinance removes the sunset date, ensuring the program's standards and reporting requirements remain in effect until December 31, 2035. For hospitals, the revised goals include requiring DPH to share findings on vendor labor violations and decreasing the goal for meat use from 15% to 10% of total purchases. Additionally, new goals were added on September 2, 2025, for hospitals to source 5% of food from medium/small farms by January 2027, increasing to 5-7% by January 2028, and 10-15% by January 2032, while adhering to patient dietary protocols for plant-based foods. For jails, the ordinance increases the local food allocation goal to 20-40%, increases the goal for purchasing pesticide-free foods from 5% to 10%, and requires the Sheriff's Office to share findings on vendor labor violations. Both departments are also required to submit biennial reports to the Board of Supervisors detailing adherence to Good Food Purchasing Standards and outreach efforts to encourage vendor compliance with labor laws.
