The City Council of Philadelphia is amending Section 12-701 of The Philadelphia Code to authorize the designation of new buffered bicycle lanes and the removal of existing travel lanes around City Hall. Specifically, the ordinance designates a buffered bicycle lane on the north side of South Penn Square from 15th Street to East Penn Square, the west side of East Penn Square from South Penn Square to JFK Boulevard, and the south side of John F. Kennedy Boulevard from East Penn Square to the start of the left turn lane. Each designation includes the removal of a travel lane within the same limits. This ordinance aims to improve bicycle infrastructure and traffic flow in the vicinity of City Hall.
