The Philadelphia City Council enacted Bill No. 250201 to amend Chapters 19-1300 and 19-1800 of The Philadelphia Code, concerning real estate taxes. The bill increases the tax rate the Board of Education of the School District of Philadelphia is authorized to impose on real estate, while establishing an equivalent reduction in the tax rate for the City real estate tax. Specifically, for tax years 2025 through 2029, the City real estate tax rate will be 0.6159% and the School District tax rate will be 0.7839%. For tax year 2030 and thereafter, the City real estate tax rate will be 0.6089% and the School District tax rate will be 0.7909%. This adjustment shifts a portion of the real estate tax burden from the City to the School District.
