The Council of the City of New York affirmed the designation by the Landmarks Preservation Commission of the (Former) Whitney Museum of American Art Interior. This designation pertains to the interior of the property located at 945 Madison Avenue (Block 1389, Lot 50) in the Borough of Manhattan, Community District 8. The Landmarks Preservation Commission filed its designation report on May 30, 2025, based on its report dated May 20, 2025. The City Planning Commission submitted its report on the designation on July 18, 2025, following a public hearing on August 13, 2025. The Subcommittee on Landmarks, Public Sitings and Dispositions recommended affirming the designation on September 18, 2025, which was subsequently approved by the Committee on September 25, 2025. The Council adopted Resolution No. 1069 affirming the designation, thereby establishing the interior as an individual landmark under the New York City Charter.
