The New York City Council approved a local law (Int. No. 791-A) requiring the Department of Social Services (DSS) to publicly post data on vacant supportive housing units on its website. This includes the total number and percentage of all vacant supportive housing units, as well as units at different stages of the placement process. The data will be disaggregated by whether the unit is new or existing, the contracting agency, and whether it's congregate or scatter site housing. DSS must provide data on supportive housing units by January 1, 2026, and data related to Human Resources Administration’s HIV/AIDS Services (HASA) program units by June 1, 2026. Information on vacant units will be updated monthly, while average and median days for unit occupancy and client referral will be updated quarterly.
