The New York City Council approved a local law to amend the administrative code in relation to creating a residential fire emergency response guide. This guide, to be developed and maintained by a mayor-designated agency in consultation with the FDNY, HPD, and DOB, will provide crucial information for individuals affected or displaced by residential fires. It will include details on assisting agencies, post-fire inspection information, emergency aid and housing resources (disaggregated by borough), landlord duties, tenant protections, renters' insurance, and utility suspension best practices. The guide will be distributed via QR codes on FDNY vehicles at fire scenes and made available at post-fire inspections, published on the mayor's office website in designated citywide languages.
