The Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government is authorized to accept an $800,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration under the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program. The total project cost is $1,000,000, with $200,000 contributed as local funds. The grant will fund two full-time staff for two years to support the Vision Zero Louisville safety initiative. One Transportation Planner will focus on 'Safer Speeds' strategies to reduce vehicular speeds and will be housed in the Public Works department. The other staff member, an Epidemiologist, will be housed in the Public Health and Wellness department and will focus on 'Post-Crash Care' strategies to improve health outcomes if crashes occur. The final deliverables include a Speed Management Plan and a data linkage program. This is a planning and demonstration grant designed to enhance the existing Safety Action Plan and the Vision Zero Louisville (VZL) Safety Report (2021).
