The City Council of Jacksonville approved Ordinance 2025-509, appropriating $7,200,000 from a designated Special Council Contingency Account for Public Service Grants for the fiscal year 2025-2026. This funding will be allocated to Acute, Prevention and Diversion, and Self-Sufficiency and Stability categories to support Most Vulnerable Persons and Needs as outlined in Exhibit 2. The Grants and Contract Compliance Division of the Department of Finance will oversee these grants. The ordinance also waives the conflicting provision of Section 118.802 of the Ordinance Code, which requires the annual lump sum appropriation request for Public Service Grants to be included in the Mayor's proposed annual budget, allowing this appropriation to proceed via separate legislation. The appropriation is intended to be awarded as grants-in-aid to various agencies, with the Public Service Grant Council forwarding a list of recipients and allocations to relevant city offices.
