Appropriation of $1,500,000 for Increased Landfill Operating Costs at Trail Ridge Landfill

  • Size (Dollars): $1,500,000

The City Council approved an ordinance to appropriate $1,500,000 from the Solid Waste Disposal Fund. This appropriation is intended to offset increased expenses for landfill disposal charges and contractor operating costs at the Trail Ridge Landfill. The need for these additional funds arises from an unanticipated surge in tonnage disposal during the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The budgeted tonnage for FY 2024-2025 was 920,000 tons, but the landfill has already processed an excess of 740,000 tons through June 2025. The projected total tonnage for the fiscal year is now expected to reach 996,000 tons, an increase of 76,000 tons over the budget. The additional funds will cover the increased costs associated with this higher-than-expected waste volume.
