The City Council of Jacksonville, Florida, approved an appropriation of a $6,752,972.00 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the Christobel Septic Tank Phase-Out Project. This initiative will fund the construction of a comprehensive gravity sewer collection system, including two submersible pump stations and force main piping, to deliver central sewer service to the Christobel neighborhood. The project aims to eliminate approximately 310 existing septic systems, thereby significantly reducing bacteriological and nutrient pollution in the St. Johns River and its tributaries. Ultimately, this infrastructure upgrade will provide modern sewer service to 495 parcels, supporting the area's environmental health and future development potential. The grant amends the city's 2025-2029 Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan.
