The City Council of Jacksonville approved Sign Waiver Application SW-25-03 for the property at 3603 Blanding Boulevard, owned by E. Howard Acree, Jr. This decision allows for the reduction of the minimum setback requirement for an existing marquee sign from 10 feet to 6 feet within the Commercial Community/General-1 (CCG-1) zoning district. The sign, associated with the Cedar Hills Animal Hospital, has been in its current location since the early 1980s. The need for the waiver arose in 2019 when the widening of Blanding Boulevard caused the sign to be in technical violation of the updated setback requirement. Relocating the sign would impede the property's small parking area and impose a substantial financial burden. The Council determined that granting the waiver is compatible with the area's character, does not detract from the zoning ordinance's intent, does not diminish property values or harm aesthetics, and will not negatively affect traffic or public welfare. The application was filed by Patrick W. Joyce, Esq.
