The City Council is recommended to approve a motion acknowledging the concept of abandoning and selling multiple streets (Jackson, Chenevert, Hamilton, Clay, Bell, Polk, and Avenida De Las Americas) totaling approximately 284,507 square feet. This action is requested by Houston First Corporation for the expansion project of the George R. Brown Convention Center. This is the first part of a two-step process; a subsequent recommendation for an Ordinance will follow upon the applicant completing all transaction requirements. These requirements include providing survey maps, an original Statement of Ownership letter, letters of no objection from private utility companies, a Traffic Impact Analysis (under review), dedication of easements for required utilities, and drawings for public utility abandonment/relocation/privatization/construction. The value of the properties will be established by two independent appraisers.
