The Columbus City Council approved an ordinance authorizing the Director of the Recreation and Parks Department to enter into a contract with Sessley Building Services LLC for the Beatty Community Center Improvements Project. This initial contract is for $350,000.00 and aims to begin executing repairs resulting from a fire that occurred on August 22, 2024, at the Beatty Community Center, which caused fire and smoke damage throughout the building. The project will also implement space for teen programming. The delivery method for this project is Construction Manager at Risk (CMR), which allows for immediate remediation services while the design team completes drawings and specifications. Early construction activities will include hazardous material remediation and procurement of long-lead items. A future modification for the full Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) is planned once the project is fully designed and subcontractor packages are bid. The full construction cost of the project is estimated to be $3.1 million. The funds for the initial contract are budgeted and available from the Recreation and Parks Voted Bond Fund 7702, with a temporary transfer from the General Fund Income Tax Set Aside Subfund 100099 until bond sale proceeds are available.
