The Columbus City Council approved legislation authorizing the Directors of the Departments of Public Service and Public Safety to apply for a Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Program Supplemental Planning Grant from the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT). This is the fourth round of funding for the SS4A grant program, which aims to improve roadway safety by reducing or eliminating fatalities and serious injuries for all users. The proposed project focuses on improving post-crash response and care, with two supplemental planning activities and two demonstration/pilot activities. The planning activities involve developing a region-wide post-crash care plan and evaluating crash prevention and response technologies. The demonstration activities will focus on enhanced pre-hospital trauma care and improved response time and location verification. The total estimated project cost for equipment, supplies, and contracts is $5,801,642.00, with an anticipated request of $4,641,313.00 in SS4A funding from the USDOT, representing 80% of the funding. The project is expected to be completed 36 months after a grant agreement is signed. The city's current Vision Zero Action Plan would be updated to reflect the deliverables and demonstration results from this grant.
