The City Council of Chicago approved an ordinance to support a Class 7(d) real estate tax incentive for the property at 5713 West Chicago Avenue. This incentive is for the redevelopment and continued operation of a grocery store in a designated Food Desert. The property is owned by WHA SoulCity Corp and leased by Westside Health Authority (Prime Lessor), which is rehabilitating the space. Forty Acres Fresh Market LLC (Grocery Tenant/Applicant) will operate a grocery store in approximately 9,734 square feet, and PNC Bank will operate a branch bank in 2,050 square feet. The City determined that the incentive is necessary for the development or retention of a grocery store in a Food Desert and supports the Class 7d application to the Cook County Assessor. A redevelopment agreement will be negotiated and executed between the Applicant, the Property Owner, the Prime Lessor, and the City.
