The Chicago City Council has approved an ordinance to reclassify a specific area in the 3rd Ward. The reclassification changes several existing zoning designations, including RM-5 Residential Multi-Unit District, B1-3 and B1-5 Neighborhood Shopping Districts, B3-2 and B3-5 Community Shopping Districts, and C2-1 Motor Vehicle-Related Commercial District. The entire area, encompassing properties such as 436-558 E 47th Street and 431-451 E 47th Street, will now be designated as a B3-3 Community Shopping District. This decision aims to consolidate diverse zoning types into a unified commercial district. The boundaries of the affected area are precisely defined by various alleys and streets, including East 47th Street, South Vincennes Avenue, East 46th Place, South St. Lawrence Avenue, and South Dr. Martin Luther King Drive.
