The City Council of Charlotte authorized the City Manager to apply for and accept a grant of $3,590,850 from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. The grant is intended for the Streambank Stabilization Program, which addresses multiple sites where sanitary sewer pipelines are compromised by erosive streambank conditions. Stabilizing these streambanks is crucial to prevent failure of sanitary sewer pipeline assets. This initiative aligns with the Mecklenburg County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, emphasizing flood hazard mitigation and critical infrastructure protection. A Letter of Interest was submitted in December 2024, and the final application is scheduled for October 2025. No matching city funds are required for this program.
