The City Council of Charlotte approved the transfer of 18 parcels, totaling approximately 6.4 acres, to the North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR). This transfer is part of an exchange required by a 2012 lease agreement between the City and NCRR for a 2.7-mile segment of rail corridor for the Blue Line Extension (BLE) project. Seven of the parcels will be transferred as fee simple ownership, and the remaining eleven as permanent railroad easements. The City Manager is authorized to negotiate and execute all necessary documents to complete the transaction. The transfer fulfills a condition of the original lease, where the City acquired properties for relocating freight tracks and agreed to convey them to NCRR upon BLE project completion. No additional payment is required from NCRR for these conveyances, as the consideration was included in the original lease terms.
