Seattle Grants 24-Month Extension for 2015/2018 Code-Vested Permits

Ordinance 127205 grants an automatic 24-month extension for projects and permits vested under the 2015 or 2018 Seattle Building Code that have stalled due to financing hardship. Applicants must file extension requests before November 1, 2026, to preserve code vesting and avoid costly redesigns under newer code editions. Section 106.6.10 is amended to allow an extra 24-month review period for applications once per project, beyond the existing 24-month cap. Section 106.9 now permits renewals of issued permits for an additional 24 months, supplementing the standard 18-month term and existing renewals. Section 106.10 is updated to mandate renewal of permits for qualifying 2015/2018 Code projects claiming financing hardship. These amendments apply to both active permit applications and issued permits vested under the older codes. More than 3,000 distinct project addresses and approximately 34,000 housing units vested to the 2015 and 2018 codes may benefit from the extension.
