The San Francisco Board of Supervisors authorized the Recreation and Park Department to accept and expend a bequest of approximately $3,600,000 from the estate of William Benjamin Bobo. The funds are designated for park improvements across San Francisco. The will stipulates that 80% of the residue of Mr. Bobo's estate, estimated at $3.6 million, be used for placing newly built park benches bearing plaques stating "In Memory of Ben, Rory, and Chad." The department, in consultation with the executor, agreed to utilize the bequest in three primary ways: 40% ($1,440,000) for Alta Plaza Park Master Plan implementation (including concrete repairs, asphalt pathway replacement, unifying site furniture and signage, and replacing/adding benches), 20% ($720,000) for building and installing approximately 50 new benches and other park furnishings across various park sites, and 40% ($1,440,000) for the Department's capital projects or refurbishments (including dog play areas, new parks, and playgrounds). Donor recognition will be included at various sites. The resolution was passed by the Board of Supervisors on July 15, 2025.
