On June 17, 2025, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors disapproved the Historic Preservation Commission’s approval of a Certificate of Appropriateness (Motion No. 494) for a project at 3400 Laguna Street, which included demolishing two noncontributing buildings, constructing the Bay and Francisco buildings, renovating existing structures, and enhancing the Julia Morgan building. The Board subsequently approved a revised Certificate of Appropriateness with a modification to Condition 1, requiring Department preservation staff to review and approve final architectural details of fenestration size, orientation, and exterior finishes, provided that no reduction in project square footage results. All other aspects of the Commission’s decision remain unchanged. The motion was approved as amended by a 10–1 vote.
