On May 20, 2025, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors conditionally disapproved the Planning Commission’s February 13, 2025 approval of a Conditional Use Authorization (Planning Case No. 2023-007010CUA) for an accessory maintenance and facility building at 1310 Junipero Serra Boulevard. The Board concurrently approved its own Conditional Use Authorization for the same project, subject to additional conditions. The Project replaces nine existing maintenance and facility structures totaling approximately 10,455 square feet with a new one-story, 25-foot-tall maintenance building of roughly 20,000 gross square feet in an existing Open Recreation Area. Under the stipulated conditions, all construction traffic must be routed via roads other than Thomas More Way, and tree removal activities are restricted to non-instructional hours or the summer recess. The applicant is required to continuously apply water during dust-producing activities and establish an on-site hotline for fugitive dust complaints, with a response plan for unanticipated discharges. All construction and drawings must comply with Health Code dust control provisions, applicable third-party consultant recommendations, and requirements from the Department of Building Inspection, San Francisco Fire Department, and Public Utilities Commission. The new facility must also include an audio-visual alarm on the northern elevation to warn of smoke or fire alarm activations. These measures aim to modernize maintenance operations while minimizing community and environmental impacts.
