The City and County of San Francisco Board of Supervisors adopted the Sunset Chinese Cultural District’s Cultural, History, Housing, and Economic Sustainability Strategy (CHHESS) Report. This resolution formalizes the establishment of the Sunset Chinese Cultural District by amending the Administrative Code, Chapter 107. The CHHESS Report serves as a comprehensive roadmap for preserving the cultural legacy and ensuring the future vitality of the Chinese-American community in the Sunset neighborhood. The district's boundaries are defined by Lincoln Avenue to the North, 19th Avenue to the East, Sloat Boulevard to the South, and the Great Highway to the West. The report outlines strategies across six key areas: historic and cultural preservation, housing access and stabilization, economic and workforce development, land use, arts and culture, and cultural competency. This initiative involves collaborative partnerships between the Sunset Chinese Cultural District, the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development, the Office of Economic and Workforce Development, the Planning Department, and the Arts Commission, building upon extensive community engagement and prior planning efforts like the Sunset Blueprint and Sunset Forward. The goal is to create an inclusive environment that addresses the unique needs of the multi-generational Chinese families, youth, and elders residing in the district.
