This ordinance amends San Francisco's Planning Code and Zoning Map to establish the 3250 19th Avenue Special Sign District (SSD) for Assessor’s Parcel Block No. 7231, Lot No. 003. The new district aims to provide signage opportunities appropriate for the large size of the parcel, which is currently an educational campus (Chinese American International School). The existing RH-1(D) (Residential-House, One-Family, Detached) District sign controls were deemed too restrictive for this atypically large 235,000 SF (5.4 AC) parcel, which historically operated as Mercy High School for over 70 years. The SSD allows for increased signage flexibility, including specific rules for freestanding and wall signs based on street frontage. One sign is permitted for each 130 linear feet of street frontage, wall signs can be up to 50 feet high or 140 square feet, and freestanding signs up to 60 square feet. The Planning Commission recommended approval with modifications on April 3, 2025, to permit indirect illumination for signs. The Board of Supervisors finally passed the ordinance on April 29, 2025, with the Mayor's approval on May 2, 2025.
