This local law amends the administrative code of the City of New York to require the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) to provide tenant relocation services for individuals displaced due to fires or other emergencies. Upon request, HPD must relocate these tenants to suitable vacant accommodations within the same or an immediately adjacent community district as their displaced building. If no suitable accommodations are available in those areas, HPD is required to relocate tenants to the nearest community district within the same borough, where possible. The law also specifies that such services may include temporary housing like hotels or motels. This local law will take effect 180 days after it officially becomes law.
