On May 28, 2025 the New York City Council approved the Atlantic Avenue Mixed-Use Plan, a community-led neighborhood rezoning in Central Brooklyn. The plan unlocks up to 4,600 new housing units—including 40% permanently affordable through Mandatory Inclusionary Housing Option One—and secures over $215 million for local infrastructure and public realm improvements. Through negotiated modifications, the plan directs funding toward tenant and homeowner legal services, streets and sidewalks enhancements, six park and playground renovations, subway station upgrades, and workforce development programs. The Council’s revisions also mandate affordability and community investments to ensure long-term neighborhood benefits. The plan spans Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, and Bedford–Stuyvesant and represents a model of collaborative urban planning between City Planning, elected officials, and residents.
