The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, through its Department of Water and Sewerage Services (METRO), has entered into a participation agreement with Fisk University to fund the construction of an 11,440 square foot green roof on Fisk's new Allied Science Building. This initiative aims to enhance green stormwater infrastructure, thereby reducing the volume of stormwater discharged into the city's combined sewer system and mitigating localized flooding. METRO, operating under a consent decree for stormwater reduction, will contribute $150,000 towards the project, recognizing the green roof as an effective strategy. Fisk University will manage the construction and subsequent operation and maintenance of the green roof and will install educational signage to highlight its benefits and METRO's involvement. The Metropolitan Planning Commission recommended approval of this agreement on June 17, 2025.
