The Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County passed Ordinance BL2025-898 on July 15, 2025, to update Title 16 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws by adopting the 2024 editions of several International Code Council building codes. These include the International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Energy Code, NFPA-70 Electrical Code, International Plumbing Code, International Mechanical Code, International Swimming Pool Code, International Existing Building Code, and ANSI-117 Disability Accessibility Design and Standards. The ordinance also incorporates local amendments to align with state law and Metro's appeal processes. A significant amendment allows for single stairway exits in buildings up to six stories, a change from previous regulations. This update supersedes the 2018 edition of the codes.
