An ordinance (BL2025-841) was passed on June 10, 2025 by the Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County to designate the segment of Underwood Street between 21st Avenue North and 22nd Avenue North with the honorary name “Dr. J. Lucious Fitzgerald, Sr. Way.” The designation honors Dr. Fitzgerald’s 48 years of service as pastor of Ephesian Primitive Baptist Church in North Nashville. The ordinance authorizes the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure to install honorary street signs at both ends of the designated segment. This honorary naming does not change official street names or require any address changes for residents or businesses located on that section of Underwood Street.
