A $25,000 AARP Flagship grant was awarded to Metro Nashville’s Parks & Recreation Department to revitalize the kitchen at Elizabeth Senior Center in North Nashville. The funding will update layout, purchase new appliances, cabinetry, flooring, paint, and furniture to enhance meal preparation capacity serving approximately 300 older adults weekly. Metro Parks will procure and install a commercial-grade stove, refrigerator, and install new flooring covering 2,832 square feet. The project supports Metro Social Services’ nutritional programs and improves safety features critical to older adult patrons. Land‐use approvals are secured as the center operates on Metro‐owned property. The timeline includes stakeholder input sessions, design approval, procurement, installation, testing, staff training, and a reopening event by December 15, 2025. Oversight will be provided by an advisory board of 20 local older adults convened by the center director. Supporting partners include the Mayor’s Office, Metro Social Services, Nashville Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), and the Nashville Older Adult Coalition. This capital improvement is scheduled for completion at the end of the grant period.
