The Metro Council of Nashville and Davidson County has approved a resolution authorizing Mel’s Drive-In to construct, install, and maintain aerial encroachments at 148 2nd Avenue North. The encroachments include one double-faced, LED illuminated blade projection sign and one double-sided, non-illuminated shingle sign. The applicant must indemnify the city from all liability and maintain a $2,000,000 liability insurance policy. The resolution also requires the signs to be installed under the supervision of the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT), with the city reserving the right to revoke the encroachment for public welfare reasons. Mel’s Drive-In is responsible for all costs associated with construction, installation, and maintenance.
This approval enhances business visibility in a prime commercial district while ensuring compliance with Nashville’s right-of-way regulations. It also establishes liability and insurance requirements to protect public infrastructure.
