The Los Angeles City Council has been ordered by a Peremptory Writ of Mandate from the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, to set aside and invalidate all project approvals for the proposed Selma Wilcox Hotel Project. This includes rescinding Ordinance No. 186025, which had amended the zoning map for the project site. The court's order, dated March 10, 2025, stems from petitions filed by Sunset Landmark Investment, LLC, challenging the adequacy of the Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) for the project. The court found that the City abused its discretion by adopting the MND, citing significant impacts on air quality and an inconsistent baseline analysis under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The original project, applied for by 6421 Selma-Wilcox Hotel, LLC, was an eight-story mixed-use building of 60,568 square feet, featuring 114 guest rooms, a 1,993 square foot restaurant, and over 20,624 square feet of ground floor commercial space. It also included requests for a conditional use permit for alcoholic beverages, a zone variance, and a site plan review. The court found the City failed to comply with its earlier order to remedy deficiencies in the environmental review within a four-year period, warranting the immediate invalidation of all related approvals.
