The Los Angeles City Planning Commission approved and recommended a Zone Change and Height District Change for properties at 800, 806, 812, 816, and 820 West Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and 4011 South Hoover Street. This action modifies a previous approval to increase the maximum building height of the West Structure to 65 feet, instead of 54 feet plus an additional 11 feet for elevator shafts, solar panels, and equipment. The project involves reconfiguring the ground floor plan, enhancing facade materials, and enclosing the rooftop steel structure of the previously approved building (West Structure) as part of a proposed Hyundai car dealership. The East Structure, part of the same overall project, was completed in 2020 and operates as a Honda Dealership. The proposed modifications are considered minor, as the construction of the West Structure is approximately 95% complete. The project remains consistent with the General Plan and is subject to new Tentative 'T' and Qualified 'Q' Classifications and 'D' Development Limitations. The commission voted 6-0 to approve and recommend the changes.
