The Los Angeles City Council approved the vacation of Monte Mar Place from approximately 100 feet northerly of Anchor Avenue to its northerly terminus on September 13, 2022, permanently removing the public right-of-way. The decision, processed under Council File No. 21-1151, will allow adjacent single-family property owners to repurpose the 1,345-square-foot segment for landscaping and expanded yard space. The City Engineer’s report found no adverse effects on vehicular circulation or pedestrian access and exempted the action under CEQA Article III, Class 5(3). Upon vacation, the City is relieved of maintenance obligations and potential liability for the easement. Conditions include abandonment or relocation of existing sewer infrastructure, installation of street lighting, and planting of street trees. Adjoining parcels in R1V2-O and A1-1XL-O zones support single-family residential and accessory uses. Notices were sent to property owners, Pacific Crest Consultants, and utility agencies to coordinate easements and improvements. The petitioner must submit a legal description, title report, and record an agreement to maintain unified parcel ownership before recording the resolution to vacate.
