The Los Angeles City Council authorized a zero-cost license renewal granting Little Italy of Los Angeles Association (LILAA) the rights to manage, improve, and activate the public plaza at 603 South Harbor Boulevard for five years, with an additional five-year option. Under the agreement, LILAA will assume responsibility for tenant improvements, fountain and donor wall maintenance, custodial services, and event security, while the City covers water and electricity costs. Originally established in 2019 to transform the underutilized Pepper Tree Plaza into Piazza Miramare, a cultural hub celebrating Italian heritage, the plaza is undergoing a $6 million redevelopment funded by Council District 15’s Real Property Trust Fund and community sponsorships. The redesign features terraced seating, a waterfront shade trellis, and the restored historic Fontana del Pescatore fountain. With approximately 9,897 square feet of programmable space, the plaza will accommodate farmers markets, live performances, cultural festivals, and community gatherings. This renewal ensures LILAA’s continued stewardship and activation of the site as a cornerstone of economic revitalization and cultural enrichment in San Pedro.
