The Los Angeles City Council adopted a resolution on June 9, 2017 to remove the property at 6142 N Hazelhurst Place from the Rent Escrow Account Program (REAP). This decision terminates the rent reductions and authorizes the release of any escrow funds held under REAP for this case (Case No. 211187). The property was originally placed into REAP on September 30, 2008 due to outstanding code violations for fire warning devices, exiting, weatherproofing, maintenance, electrical, plumbing/gas, and heating/ventilation. Since that time, the owner corrected the cited deficiencies, and both the Coalition for Economic Survival and the HCIDLA Code Enforcement Unit verified completion of the necessary repairs. The resolution finds that all orders affecting the units and common areas have been signed off by the appropriate enforcement agencies and that water and power charges have been paid to satisfaction. Upon adoption, rent payments will be restored to the original level 30 days after tenants receive the notice of restoration. The resolution further directs the Housing and Community Investment Department to release escrow funds after satisfying its administrative fees and penalties and to conduct expedited systematic inspections with prepaid annual inspection fees. Termination of the REAP recording with the County Recorder and release of funds is conditioned on payment of all outstanding department fees, penalties, and costs.
