The Los Angeles City Council approved the allocation of $8,782,000 from the Development Services Trust Fund (DSTF) for the continuation of consultant services for the BuildLA Project. This multi-departmental initiative aims to establish a centralized electronic planning and permitting solution, enhancing the delivery of development services through automated, simplified workflows accessible to both internal staff and the public. The funding for Year 4 includes $4,750,000 for multi-departmental components and $4,032,000 for departmental projects. The project seeks to replace and enhance existing City applications across various development service departments, including Engineering, Building and Safety, City Planning, and Fire Department. The BuildLA portal, which soft-launched in October 2024, currently provides permit information and clearance status, with ongoing efforts to expand features and integrate data from additional departments. This project is funded by a 1% surcharge on permits, with discussions ongoing to extend this surcharge beyond its anticipated sunset in 2025 to ensure full cost recovery.
