This ordinance renames the roadway currently known as “Lenox Square” to “Tiphne D. Hollis Lane” in Council District 9. The renaming honors Tiphne D. Hollis, who tragically passed away at age 16 due to gun violence in 2010. Her family and friends established a Christian learning academy and the Tiphne Dar’Shay Hollis Foundation in her memory. The ordinance also waives the requirement of section 745.105(i)(1) of the Ordinance Code, which typically mandates that individuals honored by street renaming must have achieved prominence through significant positive contributions to the United States, Florida, or the local community; this waiver acknowledges Ms. Hollis's early passing. The City will incur costs for designing and installing the new street sign, but the applicant has paid a $2,000 fee for the renaming process. The 911 Emergency Addressing Advisory Committee and the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission both voted in favor of the renaming. An affected property owner also provided their consent.
