The Jacksonville City Council approved Ordinance 2025-277-E, which codifies the name of the public park located at 2874 Park Street, Jacksonville, Florida, 32205, as "Peace Memorial Park". This ordinance also appropriates $965,000 for significant improvements to the park. The funding includes a $735,000 grant from the Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, Inc., $100,000 from the Countywide Parks and Recreation Projects, and $130,000 from the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Trust Fund. The $735,000 grant was generously pledged by the J. Wayne Weaver family and the Ronald Morris Weaver family to enhance park amenities and complement a labyrinth. A waiver of Section 122.105 of the Ordinance Code was granted to formally name the city-owned park. The funds are earmarked for construction, and the project's commencement is contingent upon receiving a $130,000 contribution from Riverside Avondale Preservation. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services will oversee the project, and appropriated funds will carry over to September 30, 2026. The ordinance also amends the 2025-2029 Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan.
