The Jacksonville City Council approved a sign waiver application (SW-25-01) for Highlands United Presbyterian Church at 10900 McCormick Road. The church sought to reduce the minimum sign setback from 20 feet to 10 feet and to allow for the internal illumination of its signs in the RLD-90 (Residential Low Density-90) zoning district. The application was filed by Thomas Sweeney on behalf of the property owner. The Land Use and Zoning Committee recommended approval with a 7-0 vote on April 1, 2025. The City Council subsequently approved the waiver with a 19-0 vote on April 8, 2025. The waiver was found to be in harmony with the spirit and intent of the Zoning Code, compatible with existing contiguous signage and zoning, and would not detract from the code's specific intent or negatively impact property values, aesthetics, or public welfare.
