The Houston City Council approved an ordinance authorizing the Director of the City of Houston Health Department to accept and expend a $2,000,000 grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the Healthy Homes Production Grant Program. This program adopts a comprehensive strategy to tackle various childhood diseases and injuries by targeting housing-related hazards. The grant aims to assess and intervene in 120 housing units occupied by at-risk children, characterize health and safety risks, prevent lead poisoning, and conduct community education on preventing child illnesses and injuries linked to housing hazards. Additionally, it will develop and distribute outreach materials through partnerships with community and faith-based organizations. The initial budget period for this grant is from December 02, 2024, to January 14, 2028. The City is not required to provide a matching cash contribution.
