The Houston City Council approved an ordinance consenting to the addition of 46.932 acres of vacant land to the Sunbelt Fresh Water Supply District. The District, established in 1995 and converted to a municipal utility district in 2020, currently encompasses 2,361.05 acres within Harris County's extraterritorial jurisdiction. The newly added land is intended for future single-family residential development. The Utility District Review Committee evaluated the application, focusing on wastewater collection and treatment, potable water distribution, and stormwater conveyance. Wastewater treatment for the annexation tracts will be provided by the Woodland Oaks Wastewater Treatment Facility, and potable water by Woodland Oaks Water Plant No. 1. The proposed tracts are partially located within the 100-year (12%) and 500-year (24%) floodplains, with White Oak Bayou serving as the nearest major drainage facility. By consenting, the District acknowledged that all plans for water conveyance, wastewater collection, and stormwater collection systems within the District require prior City approval. The Utility District Review Committee recommended the petition's approval.
