The City of Houston approved an ordinance to accept two grant awards from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) totaling $1,619,037.00 for the Fiscal Year 2026 Homeless Housing Services Program (HHSP) funds. This includes a General Set-Aside allocation of $1,213,997.00 and a Youth Set-Aside funding of $405,040.00 specifically for youth homelessness. The General Set-Aside funds can be used for activities such as construction, development, or procurement of housing for homeless persons, rehabilitation of structures for homeless or at-risk individuals, and provision of direct services and case management. HHSP provides state funding to the nine largest cities in Texas to support services for homeless individuals and families. This approval is a necessary administrative step for the City to receive the contracts, with future ordinances to allocate these funds to local nonprofit organizations.
