The City of Houston approved an ordinance appropriating an additional $315,000.00 from the Dedicated Drainage and Street Renewal Capital Fund to HDR Engineering, Inc. for professional engineering services related to Traffic Signal Timing Projects. This additional appropriation increases the total contract value to $1,725,000.00. The project aims to evaluate and optimize signal operations for approximately 400 pre-timed signalized intersections in Downtown and Midtown areas to improve coordination and safety. The original contract was approved on September 13, 2023, under Ordinance No. 2023-0753, covering Phase I preliminary design. This additional funding will complete the remaining work authorizations, including implementation, fine-tuning, and documentation of signal timing plans. The contract requires compliance with the City’s ‘Pay or Play’ ordinance, and HDR Engineering, Inc. proposes to meet the 29% M/WBE goal through sub-contractors like KBH Traffic Engineering, LLC and Transcend Engineers & Planners, LLC.
