On June 3, 2025, the Houston City Council approved an ordinance authorizing submission of required application materials to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for a Community Project Funding award of $573,300 to fund the construction of the new Walter J. Rasmus Heritage House at Rasmus Park. The award will fund the design and construction of a heritage meeting house at 3721 Jeanetta St, honoring civil rights-era leader Walter J. Rasmus Sr. Rasmus Park Heritage House replaces a demolished historic meeting house and will serve as a public reservation-based venue for neighborhood and educational functions. Of the award, $487,305 is allocated to construction, renovation, and rehabilitation, and $85,995 to administration. The grant period begins upon HUD's grant agreement execution and must be fully expended by August 31, 2032. Non-CPF funding totaling $500,000 will be provided from the Parks & Recreation Dedication Fund and the Contributed Capital Project Fund. Final contracts and partner selections will return to Council for approval.
