The Houston City Council approved an ordinance consenting to the annexation of 64.383 acres into Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 576. Created in 2021 by an act of the Texas Legislature, the district currently consists of 376.6 acres and lies within the extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) of Houston. The annexation includes two vacant tracts of land intended for single-family residential, commercial, and utility-related uses such as drainage and detention. The area will be serviced by the Grand Prairie Wastewater Treatment Plant, which also supports other nearby MUDs including 570A, 570C, and 570D. Potable water is supplied by the district. The annexed land lies outside the 100- and 500-year floodplains and drains via Rock Hollow Creek into the Cypress Creek watershed. All utility infrastructure must be reviewed and approved by the City of Houston.
This annexation supports managed development in Houston’s ETJ, helping meet infrastructure and housing needs while preserving environmental protections through regulated drainage and utility planning.
