The Columbus City Council authorized a $1,500,000.00 contract modification with E.L. Robinson Engineering of Ohio Co. for the Big Walnut Trail - Refugee Road to East Main Street Project. This funding is for Stage 2, Phase 1, encompassing detailed design of the 3.5-mile, 10-foot asphalt trail and securing necessary permits. The project extends from Nafzger Park at Refugee Road north to East Main Street, passing under I-270, Norfolk Southern Railroad, and I-70. It aims to connect Walnut Heights, Pine Hills, and Shady Lane neighborhoods. The additional funds are necessary to advance the project while awaiting capital fund replenishment from an upcoming bond sale, with further modifications planned for 2026. The original project completion date remains September 11, 2026. This emergency ordinance also authorizes various fund transfers and appropriations to cover the expenditure.
