Columbus City Council approved a variance (CV24-116) for 295 Reeb Ave. to allow the conversion of an existing religious facility into a nonprofit social services center. The variance is necessary because the R-3 zoning district does not permit institutional uses such as this. The variance also permits a reduction in required parking from 39 to 28 spaces. The 0.90-acre site, located at the southeast corner of Reeb Avenue and South 8th Street, includes a former church and a single-unit home. The South Side Plan recommends institutional uses at this location, and the South Side Area Commission unanimously supported the application. The variance will allow the facility to provide critical support services to the community while maintaining compatibility with surrounding land uses.
This project transforms a vacant church into a vital community resource offering healthcare and social support services. It aligns with city planning goals and addresses critical service needs in the South Side neighborhood.
