The Columbus City Council has approved a $1,053,025 expenditure from the Streets and Highways Bond Fund to support the Cassady Avenue Widening project from Bexley Corp to 7th Avenue. The project involves reconstructing Cassady Avenue from a two-lane uncurbed section to a three-lane curb and gutter section, with additional turn lanes at East 5th Avenue. Key enhancements include a new traffic signal, sidewalks on the east side, a shared-use path on the west side, new street lighting, and street trees where feasible. Additionally, a 12-inch water main between Avalon Place and East 5th Avenue will be replaced. A portion of the improvements will cross or be near active railroad tracks operated by CUOH, requiring a construction and maintenance agreement between the city and CUOH for services such as plan review, flagging, and inspection.

Why it Matters

This project will improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and multimodal connectivity in a crucial Columbus corridor. The expansion and infrastructure upgrades are expected to enhance transit efficiency and support economic growth along Cassady Avenue.
